Questions & Answers

Can I also control my camera with ZAP-SHOT? I don't have a Canon Digital Rebel.
ZAP-SHOT is confirmed to work with the Canon EOS 300D/350D/400D/450D/500D/550D/600D/650D / Digital Rebel/XT/XTi/XSi/T1i/T2i/T3i/T4i.
However, ZAP-SHOT basically replaces the cable remote switch. That means, if your Canon or Pentax camera allows the use of the remote switch RS60-E3, it should work.
Also Canon's PowerShot G11 and G12 use the same remote control interface and can be controlled with the ZAP-SHOT.
ZAP-SHOT also works with other cameras with a cable remote switch terminal. Simple adapters are available to support most of the Canon and Nikon DSLR's.
Please refer to the compatibility page for more details.

How much range can I expect with the ZAP-SHOT?
The range depends primarily on the environment it is used in. Other transmitter (e.g. pagers, garage door openers, …) will influence the range. Also other obstacles, e.g. bushes or trees, can lower the range. However, a range of 100+ ft / 30+ m can be expected in favorable locations.

Can I replace the batteries myself?
Yes, both units, the key fob transmitter and the receiver, incorporate common, low-cost, easy to find battery types and can be opened without tools. ZAP-SHOT comes with a documentation that shows how to replace the batteries. A PDF version of the manual can also be downloaded on our downloads page.

Is ZAP-SHOT allowed for use in my country?
ZAP-SHOT is fully CE and FCC tested and certified for use in Europe and North America. This is usually not the case for most imports.

Can I control one ZAP-SHOT receiver with multiple remote control key fobs -or- vice versa, multiple ZAP-SHOT receivers with one remote control key fob?
ZAP-SHOT allows the user to program different transmitter-receiver pairings. Therefore you can either set up unique TX-RX pairs or control multiple receiver (cameras) synchronously with one transmitter, or, control one receiver (camera) with multiple transmitters from different locations. Please refer to the user's manual for more information.

What, if my ZAP-SHOT interferes with another RF application on the same frequency (e.g. garage door opener, wireless thermometer)?
Many cheap imports use simple address switches for the pairing between a transmitter and the receiver. Most units ship with the same default address. Chances are that someone else uses the same address and interference will happen. ZAP-SHOT does not have this problem since all units use unique codes.
If there’s a stronger transmitter than the ZAP-SHOT key fob transmitter on the same frequency... well, we can't change the laws of physics. However, chance are minimal that this will ever happen, since all devices that are licensed for this frequency band can only transmit for a very short amount of time per regulation.
